Smart Phone Detox – Week 3

24 days with no mobile smart devices. The process hasn’t been perfect, but I feel okay about it. If I’m being totally honest, I’ve started replacing a lot of the time I used to spend scrolling with watching TV. What’s really the value of swapping one habit for another? Probably none. I will say, though, TV is far less addictive, and I definitely don’t get the same dopamine rush from it. I have to quit staring at the tube at some point.

To be fair, there are a lot of moving parts in my life right now. A wedding and bachelor party to plan, a project car I help my brother work on, a major work event that I help organize and execute, and my wife and I just found out we’re facing a rent increase of nearly 30%. So I don’t really have time to feel bored, and in my downtime, I try to shut my brain off—play with my cameras or watch TV.

At what point are we supposed to fault ourselves for laziness? I don’t have the answer to that.
But I do have my theories on what will make Dr. House relapse. (What a great guilty pleasure watch, by the way—HOUSE is severely underrated in 2025.)

What even is “laziness” in 2025? The amount of “White Collar” work in the United States has been perpetually increasing for a long time. We as a society (As far as the developed United States are concerned) have SOOOO much less obligation and “work” to do than our not so distant cousins from even 100 years ago – those guys would call 99% of us “Lazy” simply in comparison to them.

I think at this junction in my life I work 40 hours a week, pay my rent, keep my home clean, try and maintain as many relationships as I can, and make time for some exercise, hobbies and most importantly my wife, That that isn’t too lazy at all.
